Community Description: | A DC comics roleplaying game. |
The obvious: A Gotham Home Companion is a role-playing game set in Gotham City.
The hook: This game centers entirely on the "normal" people living in Gotham City. Batman, the Joker, et al are NPCs, whose bizarre, comic-book antics have all-too-real consequences for the city's residents.
The scene: Gotham is a city with problems. With the city's economic boom having ended in the 1920's, an ever-increasing gap between the rich and poor fuels an ongoing struggle against organized crime and exploitation of workers. STAR labs and Wayne industries can't provide enough jobs to keep the economy from floundering in the midst of a global economic recession, and corruption seems to permeate every local institution to varying degrees. As each character interacts with these institutions in their own way, they're confronted not only with this reality, but with the increasingly surreal existence of the costumed heroes and villains who seem intent on treating the city like their personal soccer field.
The rules: No godmoding; don't be a dick. We have codes available for character journals, but you need to apply: see this post for more details. We are NOT generally looking for people to play major comic book characters - if you want to try your hand at Batman, it might be best for you to seek another game. We're primarily interested in minor characters from the DCU, original characters, re-imaginings of B-and-C-list villains, etc. That being said, if you think you have a really great, unique take on a more major canon character, by all means let us know; we've been known to consider that sort of thing.
